Revision as of 11:04, 16 January 2020

The Alsuyuf II Main Battle Tank was the main battle tank of the Armies of the Five Deserts from 1978 to 1999, before it was replaced by the Alsuyuf III Main Battle Tank, and is still held in reserves as well as the hull still being used for a number of auxiliary vehicles.

Design on the vehicle started in the Decolonization Wars, in the early to mid 60s, when the shortcomings of the Alsuyuf I Main Battle Tank became more and more apparent. After several shifts in doctrine, politics and equipment, including the introduction of the 120mm Rifled Gun, the Alsuyuf II became a different tank.

Design

Mark I

Due to Alqatat Gunsmiths Limited not being able to provide enough 120mm Rifled Tank Guns, due to being in the process of upgrading the Alsuyuf I-B, the Mark I was equipped with the smaller and less powerful Alqatat Gunsmiths 105mm Rifled Tank Gun.
