The F-19 was, for a long time, the main armament of many destroyers and cruisers of the Lutetiian Navy, as well as secondary artillery of its battleships and battlecruisers. A dual-purpose gun firing shells of 35 kilograms over a range of 19,000 metres at a rate of fire of 11 to 13 rounds per minute. She fires fixed charges from an autofretted barrel from behind a Welin Breech Block. While they had ammunition lifts, early versions needed to lower the barrel into 10° position for effective reloading, while later versions, as used on Fieno-class Destroyers, could keep the angle, but the crews reported difficulties at angles over 20 degrees.
