The Aurora-Union, usually only referred to as the Union, is a gigantic nation in the Northern Arctic, which is only sparsely populated. With a total area of more then 15 million square kilometers, 14 million of which belong to the Mainland, it is a true giant. According to the 2020 census, 234 million people live in the Union. Although the term Citizen of the Union is the official and preferred demonym, the slang term Aurie is widespread and recognized.

The Aurora-Union is a Federal Parliamentary Republic with a President and a Chancellor. The capital is Gordy.

Chronological History

The Aurora-Union's Mainland is more then 14 million square kilometers in size. In addition to that, there are almost one million square kilometers in various islands big and small, which belong to the Union.

Due to the vastness of the Aurora-Union and the distance of many areas to the sea, climatologists speak of a dominance of humid continental climates, with the notable exception of the tundra areas along the northern areas (see Auroran Tundra).

A significant portion of the country is dominated by subarctic climates and, in some areas, very harsh winters. This part, known as the Auroran Taiga, is what most people think of when they hear of the Union. Long and harsh winters, boreal forests,

The only really distinct seasons are summer and winter, with spring and autumn only being brief periods of change - this is reflected in the Paganistic Faith having a Goddess of Summer and a God of Winter, but no deities of spring and autumn. Seasons are usually characterized by massive differences in temperatures, with July usually being the warmest month.

Prebrazoni Tank, TAV-650 and Colonel Korova

Two of the Union-Army's main weapons, the Prebrazoni-Tank and the AV-650, as well as Colonel Korova.

The Main Mission of the Armed Forces of the Aurora-Union is the protection of the Motherland and its citizens at home and abroad - although for the latter, only limited capabilities exist. In fact, the Armed Forces of the Aurora-Union have little to no expeditionary capabilities and don't plan on acquiring them in the near future.

The main suppliers of the Navy and the Army are domestic. The key prerequisits for a new piece of gear to even being considered for service with either is, that it can handle and survive, maybe even thrive in the Tundra and Taiga, the main areas of operation of the Armed Forces.

The Armed Forces are a professional force, but can, in times of emergency, call for a conscription of up to two years per able-bodied man. Both men and women serve in the armed forces. In total, the Union has 1.2 million men and women under arms.

First Sector

Due to the climate, animal husbandry is very important. The Auries hold sheep and cattle, but also hunt for deer and other game, although that is more a thing for the haute cuisine. In agriculture, the Auries grow a wide variety of berries, rhubarb, potatoes, apples and pears, spelt/dinkel wheat. Due to the climate, the annual plants are limited in their growth time, especially the dinkel wheat. Herding of deer, especially of the semi-domesticated Auroran Tarand, is wide-spread in the Auroran Tundra. Seafood is mostly common along the shores.

While the Union imports a variety of foodstuffs, especially tomatoes and other fruits from warmed climates, the Cuisine of the Aurora-Union relies heavily on local ingredients.

One of the strongest industrial sectors in the Union is the mining sector. Large deposits of coal, lead, molybdenum, iron, nickel, zinc, gold and gypsum, as well as other metals and minerals, but also of oil and gas lie underneath the Auroran Tundra and the Auroran Taiga. However, despite its richness in economically viable resources, much of it has not yet been developed due to the large infrastructure this would involve.

Second Sector

Industry-wise, the Union has an emphasis on Heavy Industries, including

The Aurora-Union defines cities as settlements of major importance for government and industry, while the size matters not. Towns are defined as larger settlements with more then 7,500 permanent residents, but with no major importance for government and industry. Everything below the 7,500 people boundary is defined as village or hamlet and thus rural, not urbanized.

According to these definitions, circa 23 percent of the population, ca. 53.82 million people, live in cities and wider areas, with an additional 42 percent, ca. 98.28 living in towns. 35 percent of the population, 81.9 million people, live in villages and hamlets.

Three of the most prestigious schools are the Rezvy Girls' Boarding School in Rezvy, the Bditelny-Academy and the Gremyashchy Boarding School Complex. All three of these schools operate, among other sports teams, their own Sensha-Do Teams, which are competing among each other as fiercely as their schools themselves.
